The LinkECU NZ Choice Drift Series, is a brand new Drift Championship to be run at Bruce McLaren Motorsport Park in Taupo, Centrally located in New Zealand’s North Island. The series will run over 3 Rounds, on 3 different sections of the track, with a bonus shakedown practice meeting a week out from the first round.

Saturday, October 30th, 2021 – Round 2 Warm-up then Pro & Restricted Battle Trees. 56 Battles Total!

All Drivers will be supplied with a Pit garage as part of their entry fee. At every round, we will allocate Driver + 2 Crew members their admission tickets, additional crew admission is available at general admission pricing and can be pre-purchased online from the Choice Events & Promotions Website.

There will be 2 Classes – Pro and Restricted.

The NZ Choice Drift Series Open Class is all about pushing drifting to, and beyond, its limits. The Open Class is to attract the country’s top-level drifters. The primary focus is to put on entertainment at the highest level, attracting new fans, viewers, and sponsors to the sport of drifting in New Zealand. It features a highly competitive and entertainment-based battle tree format, exciting qualifying format including an all-new Pole Shuffle to determine the final top qualifying spots and extremely presentable Drift Cars.

The Open class will run under the rules and regulations of the Safety Plan approved for the Event by TMP Ltd, the owners and operators of Bruce McLaren Motorsport Park, including TMP’s Mandatory Safety Requirements (a copy of which can be downloaded at https://www.brucemclarenmotorsportpark.com/downloads/ ) and the Specific Safety, Rules & Regulation Requirements applicable to the Event

The LinkECU NZ Choice Drift Series ‘Dry Run Roofing’ RESTRICTED CLASS:

The NZ Choice Drift Series Restricted Class aims to equalize the playing field and reward the most talented drivers, regardless of financial investment or machinery level. It is aimed at becoming a low-cost, low-risk professional series. This is a series for those on a budget wanting to test their on-track ability against some of the best drivers.

The Restricted class will run under the rules and regulations of the Safety Plan approved for the Event by TMP Ltd, the owners and operators of Bruce McLaren Motorsport Park, including TMP’s Mandatory Safety Requirements (a copy of which can be downloaded at https://www.brucemclarenmotorsportpark.com/downloads/ ) and the Specific Safety, Rules & Regulation Requirements applicable to the Event

DRIVER ENTRY:

There will be 16 Drivers Only in the Open Class and 16 Drivers Only in the restricted Class. Should you not make it to a round your position will be forfeited.

Driver fees must be paid upfront and in full in order to secure a place in the Series.

The NZ Choice Drift Series Open Class Entry fees are:

OPEN CLASS & RESTRICTED CLASS – Are Invitational for the 2021 Series


COMPETITION FORMAT – The format for qualifying, and battles, is as follows.

All 16 Entrants in each class will complete 2 qualifying runs for points. The top 4 will advance to a “Pole Shuffle” as per diagram.

This brings an exciting new format that gives a ‘second chance’ for the top 4 qualifiers to have a chance of taking the top qualifying spots. Top 4 Qualifying points will be awarded:

1st: 10
2nd: 6
3rd: 4
4th: 2

Final Qualifying positions will determine the starting position on the battle tree. A minimum of 2 battles will be required from each driver to decide finishing positions for the points.

Round Points will be awarded to each finishing position as follows and the accumulation of both qualifying and round finishing points will determine the finishing position in the championship.

3rd – 75
4th – 65
5th – 60
6th – 55
7th – 50
8th – 45
9th – 40
10th – 35
11th – 30
12th – 25
13th-16th – 20

COMPETITION QUALIFYING AND BATTLE CRITERIA – will be explained to all drivers at each driver’s briefing prior to each round, by the judging team, followed by a Q&A Session should it be required.


ELIGIBLE VEHICLES

OPEN CLASS – Eligible body styles include coupe, saloons, convertible, wagon, and “ute” style. Chassis Modification, Suspension Mounting points, Steering Mods, and all other body mods (Deemed to be safe), are Open. Tube frame chassis are allowed.

RESTRICTED CLASS – Eligible models must be considered a “production vehicle”. Eligible body styles include coupe, saloons, convertible, wagon, and “ute” style. Vehicles must maintain the original OEM steel unibody and/or steel frame structure between the OEM front and rear suspension mounting points. (section replacement for rust repair only) Exceptions may only be granted before the series starts via online application through the ‘Contact us’ area of the Choice Events website, not during an event weekend.


TROPHIES will be awarded and presented at the conclusion of each round to the podium placed drivers, and also at the conclusion of Round 3, the overall trophies will be presented. The Winner of the Pole shuffle in each class will also receive a trophy.


SPONSORSHIP REQUIREMENT There is a series sponsorship requirement, that you Display certain logos on your vehicle throughout the series, these will be supplied in the form of a series window banner to be displayed across the top of your windscreen, and also one each on both side doors of your car, that will also display your name.


AUTOGRAPH SESSIONS at all rounds during the NZ Choice Events Drift Series – there will be autograph sessions during the pit walk. The exact time for the autograph session will be announced. It is mandatory for all entered drivers to attend. This rule is intended to provide a service to the promoters, sponsors and fans that make this series possible. Each Driver will be asked to submit at the time of entering, an image of their vehicle, and then supplied with 500 A3 – Series promotional posters, these are to be used at these autograph sessions.


The rules and/or regulations set out in this document do not express or implied warranty of safety, from the publication of, or compliance with these rules and/or regulations. They are intended as a guide for the conduct of The NZ Choice Events Drift Series and are in no way a guarantee against injury to participants. These rules and/or regulations will apply to all The NZ Choice Events Drift Series racing events. In the event of any dispute, the Series Director’s decision will be final.

The NZ Choice Events Drift Series reserves the right to add to, alter, or amend these rules and/or regulations in the interest of safety and/or fair competition at any time within reason.

Any driver entering and competing in any NZ Choice Events Drift Series event acknowledges and accepts the following: Choice Events & Promotions and its assigns may use the driver’s names, pictures, likeness, and performances in any way, medium, or material. Including without limitations by and through, film productions, audio-take reproductions, transmissions over the Internet and public and private on-line service authorized by Choice Events & Promotions and the like, before, during and after the event for promoting, advertising, recording or reporting in the event or any other NZ Choice Events Drift Series event.

Unsportsmanlike Conduct – Any driver/crew member/participant found by Choice Events & Promotions officials to be engaging in unsportsmanlike behavior or any inappropriate behavior that affects the orderly conduct of an event, the interests of Drifting, or The NZ Choice Events Drift Series will receive a penalty. This includes any aggressive action toward a Choice Events & Promotions official by a driver/crew member/participant including arguing, yelling or raising your voice when talking to an official, touching the official in any physical way, and any social media posts, public or private statements that are offensive or detrimental to The NZ Choice Events Drift Series, Choice Events & Promotions or a Choice Events & Promotions official. Driver/crew member’s/participants are solely responsible for the actions of all team members at all times. In the event that a team member shows unsportsmanlike conduct, Choice Events & Promotions officials may penalize the driver/crew member/participant for the actions of the team member in addition to any penalty to the team member for his/her actions.
